About Janelle

Janelle is a mixed media artist/curator that uses avant garde techniques to reshape narratives on threatened cultural spaces such as historic African American communities that are threatened by the presence of modern day urban development. Recognizing the indepth committment necessary to not only engage communities but influence decision makers, Janelle has worked with Colorado state legislators as well as dozens of North Carolina private and public stakeholders to guide ethical redevelopment, encourage the practice of adaptive reuse and build bridges between institutions and other emerging artists who are often overlooked. She has a ten year professional background in nonprofit management as well as a Dual Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communication and Political Science from Winthrop University. Currently she is enrolled in a two year post graduate Studio Arts program at School of the Arts Institute of Chicago where she hopes to develop practical skills as a visual artist as well as a curator.
