The continuum of work: DISPLACEMENT + Afrofuturism

In 2017, Janelle’s proposal to develop an afrofuturism inspired museum exhibition won the attention of the historically Black institution, Johnson C. Smith University. Janelle had already began developing a relationship with the institution during her previous projects; all located in the fastest ‘developing’ of the city; the west corridor .

Bridging another connection between her creative activism, RCLM 37 is a call to action. An experiential museum concept, this project incorporates an almost entirely native west Charlotte team incorporating music, oral history, graphics and a documentary. With this project, Janelle is leading an informed and intentional vision for telling the story of the past and developing a creative revisioning of the future.
